Easiest way to colour the bracts on a poinsettia
Q. At about this time a year ago I bought a small but nicely coloured poinsettia. In the spring I removed it from its mini-pot and replanted in a more reasonably sized (13-cm wide) pot and set it outside for the summer. When I brought it indoors in September, lacking a space that would provide complete dark between dusk and dawn (for colouring of the bracts), I set it at the window of a room that is not used much in the evenings. Though I did not expect it, some of the bracts developed beautiful red colouring. Can you explain? Read More

Last minute tips to survive the week before Christmas
Q: Our family has really struggled to catch the holiday spirit this year. Usually, right after Thanksgiving, we start planning trips to see extended family, draw names for our gift exchange, and get excited about decorating the tree and updating our holiday playlists. Food is a big deal for us, especially since our grandmother always bakes and cooks our traditional favourites. But she had emergency surgery and is still recovering, so December just hasn’t felt the same. To keep the kids from feeling disappointed, we planned a few movie nights to cheer us up. Now, we’re finally feeling the holiday spirit, but we’ve got barely any time left to prepare. I feel like a Hallmark movie when I say it, but do you have any tips to help us save our Christmas? ~Christina Read More
